What We’ve Always Known About Our Favorite Place: New Smyrna Beach

Every once in a while, someone from outside New Smyrna Beach puts into words what those of us who love this place have known for years.

Boca magazine featured New Smyrna Beach in an article highlighting something that can be difficult to describe until you’ve experienced it yourself: NSB still feels like a beach town.

Not a manufactured version of one. Not a place overwhelmed by high-rises, traffic and crowds.

Just New Smyrna Beach.

And while we’re always happy to see our favorite place get a little well-deserved attention, we couldn’t help but smile while reading the article. Because so much of what they discovered is exactly what has made people fall in love with the New Smyrna Beach lifestyle for generations.

A Florida Beach Town That Still Feels Like One

Florida has changed tremendously over the past several decades. Coastal communities have grown, skylines have risen and once-quiet beach towns have become major destinations.

New Smyrna Beach has grown too, but somehow it has held onto something special.

There is still a relaxed rhythm here.

You can spend a morning near the water, wander through town in the afternoon, stop at a favorite local restaurant and watch the sun disappear without feeling like you spent the entire day fighting crowds.

That doesn’t mean NSB is a secret. Surfers have known about our waves for years, visitors return season after season, and more people continue to discover everything this community has to offer.

But it still manages to feel unmistakably local.

If you haven’t spent much time here yet, our New Smyrna Beach area guide is a great place to start exploring the different sides of the community.

The Outdoors Are Part of Everyday Life

The Boca magazine article highlights two places we think perfectly capture the natural side of New Smyrna Beach: Smyrna Dunes Park and Canaveral National Seashore.

Smyrna Dunes Park gives you one of the best ways to experience the shoreline, dunes and inlet all in one place. Its elevated boardwalk winds through protected natural areas before reaching the beach, with views that remind you just how unique this stretch of Florida really is.

Travel south and Canaveral National Seashore feels almost like stepping into another Florida entirely.

Undeveloped beaches, marshes, hammocks, wildlife and layers of local history stretch along one of the state’s most beautiful pieces of coastline.

These aren’t just places tourists visit.

For people who live here, they can become part of an ordinary Saturday morning.

And that’s one of the things we love most about NSB.

For those who want the Atlantic practically outside their door, take a look at what oceanfront living in New Smyrna Beach can look like.

There Is History Everywhere You Look

New Smyrna Beach isn’t a community that appeared overnight.

Its history shows up in the streets, homes, neighborhoods and buildings throughout town.

The article features The Victoria 1883, a beautifully restored historic property overlooking the Indian River. Its story is a great example of something we see throughout NSB: older places finding new life while still preserving the character that makes them special.

That blend of old and new is part of New Smyrna Beach’s identity.

You can find historic homes near the river, established neighborhoods beneath mature trees, newer residences and condos near the beach, and communities offering an entirely different style of Florida living, often just minutes from one another.

And Then There’s Flagler Avenue

Of course, you can’t talk about New Smyrna Beach for very long without ending up on Flagler Avenue.

Restaurants. Shops. Coffee. Art. Live music. Bikes. Surfboards. People heading toward the beach.

Places like Third Wave Café & Wine Bar, also mentioned in the article, help give Flagler its personality, but the real charm comes from the collection of locally loved businesses and people that make the area feel like New Smyrna Beach.

It’s the kind of place where going out for dinner can turn into an evening of wandering around town simply because nobody is quite ready to go home.

And one of the great things about NSB is that beachside is only one piece of the community. Explore Mainland New Smyrna Beach and you’ll find another side of local life, with established neighborhoods, shops, restaurants, parks and golf just across the river.

Visiting NSB Is Wonderful. Living Here Is Even Better.

This is the part of the story we’re lucky enough to experience every day.

Visitors may discover New Smyrna Beach through the beach, surfing, restaurants, parks or historic places.

But living here means those things aren’t just part of a vacation itinerary.

They’re part of home.

Your morning might begin along the river. Your afternoon could end at the beach. Dinner might be somewhere on Flagler or Canal Street. A quiet weekend may mean kayaking, biking, walking the dunes, playing a round of golf or simply doing absolutely nothing near the water.

That’s why buying a home in New Smyrna Beach is about more than bedrooms, bathrooms and square footage.

You’re choosing how you want to live.

Oceanfront. Riverfront. Mainland. Golf course living. Downtown. Condo living. A quiet neighborhood beneath the trees.

There are many different versions of the New Smyrna Beach lifestyle.

Our job is helping you find yours.

Nice to See You, New Smyrna Beach

We loved seeing Boca magazine shine a spotlight on our hometown.

Their article captured the natural beauty, history and easygoing character that make this community different from so many other Florida destinations.

But we’ll admit something.

We already knew.

We knew when we watched another sunrise over the Atlantic.

We knew walking along the river.

We knew grabbing dinner after a day at the beach.

We knew every time someone came here for a visit and started wondering what it might be like to stay.

New Smyrna Beach has always been one of our favorite places.

We’re just happy more people are discovering why.
